Rose petals to be sold in Australia for the first time
Rose petal, an annual flower with bright red petals that bloom from May to October, is to be offered in supermarkets and garden centres in Australia this year.
Rose petals are prized in China and Taiwan for their rich fragrance, and rose petals and their fragrant petals can be used as perfume, making them popular with Chinese men.
The sale of rose petal rose petalling roses in Australia is expected to increase by 40 per cent to about $200,000 per year.
But a spokesman for the Australian Rose Association, the trade body representing Australian rose producers, said they were looking for “an increase in supply”.
Rose petal producers in New Zealand are also planning to grow rose petas for export.
Rose bud is also widely used as a medicinal ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.
There are about 6,000 rose petaled varieties in Australia, with the largest species being the red rose, which is the red flower with a red tip.
